# Licences and attribution: boardinggate.io holiday data

The files under `/bg-assets/holidays/v1/` are built by `scripts/build_holidays.py` from the sources below.
Each source keeps its own licence. They are not merged into one database.

## 1. Public, bank and observance days (`{CC}/{YEAR}.json`, `{CC}/meta.json`, `index.json`)

Hand-maintained overrides in `overrides/` (for example China's make-up workdays from the State Council
notice) are original work by boardinggate.io and cite their official source in each entry.

## 2. UK bank holidays (`GB/{YEAR}.json`, entries with `"source":"gov.uk"`)

Taken from https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays.json.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

## 3. School holidays (`school/{CC}/{YEAR}.json` only)

Contains information from OpenHolidays API (openholidaysapi.org), made available under the ODC Open Database License (ODbL).

- Licence: Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0, https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/
- The school files are a Derivative Database of the OpenHolidays data and are offered under the same
  ODbL v1.0 licence. Changes made: converted to per-country, per-year JSON; school-type groups mapped to
  regions; vocational-school-only rows dropped; a small number of records corrected or removed after
  checking official sources (listed in `overrides/school-corrections.json`).
- The school files are published separately from the other data and are only combined with it for display
  (a Collective Database); no other data is licensed under ODbL because of this.

## 4. Travel impact notes (`impact.json`)

Original text by boardinggate.io, written from the official source cited in each entry (`source`,
`checked` date). Copyright boardinggate.io. Not to be republished without permission.

## Not used

No data from Calendarific, HolidayAPI or the `date-holidays` npm package is used. Nager.Date, the Japan
Cabinet Office CSV, US OPM and Singapore MOM pages were used only to cross-check dates; none of their
data is shipped.
